Wajima lacquerware was designated as an Important Intangible Cultural Property in 1977.
The most distinctive feature of Wajima lacquerware is the robust base. Weak areas are reinforced by pasting linen cloth with lacquer, then mixing Wajima's specialty diatomaceous earth and lacquer, and applying it many times to create a solid base.
After the base is completed, layer the laquer and then decorate to complete. Therefore, more than 100 steps are required to complete the work. Lacquer becomes harder as time passes.

- Please refrain from using a dishwasher.
